This rollercoaster of an album deliberates on self-worth, artistic integrity, relevance and legacy There has always been a lot of heart and soul in De La Soul‘s music, but it’s fair to say that Cabin In The Sky is absolutely packed with it. In February 2023, Dave Jolicoeur (aka Trugoy The Dove) sadly passed away, leaving De La Soul’s magic three apparently down a member. However, there is spirituality to this outfit, and whilst he might not be physically with the band any more, his presence is all over Cabin In The Sky.
Opinion: Excellent
This is one for the fans. De La Soul are one of the most cherished groups in hip-hop history, a band whose commitment to the craft is almost without peers. From the Daisy Age to Native Tongues , through their 21stcentury experiments, De La Soul have never ceased to entertain, and to challenge. 'Cabin In The Sky' is perhaps their greatest challenge.
